The decision to organize the “International agricultural journal” was adopted by the heads of government of member countries of the Council for mutual economic assistance (CMEA) in may 1956.
The magazine began to produce 8 of the participating countries of CMEA – Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, GDR, Poland, Romania, USSR, Czechoslovakia. In each of these countries worked for the national edition, which publishes the journal in their own language. Headed the national edition of leading scientists-agrarians, which has enormous scientific and practical experience in the field of Economics, agricultural production, international cooperation in agriculture, deeply understand the tasks of information work.
The function of the Secretariat of the international editorial Board and coordinator of the national revision was performed in the main edition. From 1957 to 1961 the main office was in Sofia (Bulgaria), and since 1962 – in Moscow (in the headquarters of the CMEA).
In an address to the readers in the very first issue of “International agricultural journal” – № 1, 1957 – edition wrote:
“The aim of the journal is to promote the comprehensive and rapid exchange of scientific achievements and advanced experience in agriculture of different countries.
The magazine is a great place is the articles, materials, and reports of theoretical studies, scientific generalizations and new methods of work in various branches of agricultural production.
The journal will contain articles on Economics and organization of agriculture, particularly on organization and productivity. Wide coverage to the activities of cooperatives of various forms. Great attention will be given to methods of intensification of agriculture and livestock, measures to increase crop yields, the most rational usage of mineral fertilizers and other methods of chemicals in agriculture. The magazine will cover the storage, primary processing and transportation of agricultural products.
Livestock magazine is to publicize the practical experience and scientifically-based suggestions for increasing productivity and improving the quality of livestock products”.
After the termination in 1991 of the work of the CMEA in connection with the radical transformations in Eastern Europe and in other countries, all the national edition of the “International agricultural journal”, except Russia, was disbanded.
Russian edition of the magazine, despite the many difficulties and obstacles, the complexity of transition and radical reforms in the country, managed to save, thanks to the efforts of members of the Russian editorial Board and editorial staff.
For 60 years, “international agricultural journal” has covered a long and difficult path. An anniversary is not only a holiday, but a summing up, the analysis of the past, a definition of prospects of further development.
The recognition of the status of our journal is the inclusion of the Russian book chamber in the required list of analytical painting in the State bibliography(GBU).
Since 2014, the Editorial Board established a new development strategy. The bet was made on the scientific and practical development activities and active engagement of effective agricultural business. Began to practice the special issues of the journal, where there are the main topics of this issue are devoted to the important events in agriculture(exhibitions, conferences) and individual fields of activity(farming, agricultural machinery, fertilizer production, food industry, etc.). Our magazine is a permanent partner of the national prize named after P. A. Stolypin “agrarian elite of Russia” and co-organizer of many scientific conferences and forums. “International agricultural journal” is distributed at exhibitions and scientifically-practical conferences, various agricultural forums. Actively develop the activities of our magazine for promotion of scientific achievements in agricultural science. “International agricultural journal” included in the new, approved by the Presidium of the HAC Ministry of education and science in December 2015, “the List of leading reviewed scientific magazines and editions in which should be published basic scientific results of dissertations on competition of scientific degrees of doctor and candidate of Sciences”. MSHG included in the database of the International information system for agricultural science and technology AGRIS, FAO of the UN and in the Russian index of scientific citation (RISC).
MSHG actively involved in various systems of open access to scientific knowledge, including Open Access. 2016 the journal publishes full-text articles in the scientific electronic library and Cyberleninka. In just a few months, the magazine appeared more than 6 thousand new readers. Constantly increasing the journal impact factor RISC. With different rankings of SCIENCE INDEX by category “Agriculture and forestry” our journal consistently ranks in the top 20.

The editorial Board of “International agricultural journal” in 2014 decided to develop publishing activities. Autonomous nonprofit organization “editor’s MSHI” in addition to our traditional magazine is published by the Moscow economic journal and the international journal of applied science and technology “Integral”. Both journals are included in the Russian index of scientific citation(RISC), and “Moscow journal” was also included in the new list of HAC. Publishing house ANO “MSHI” plans to launch several projects, including student research journal.
