The goal of the article is an orderly presentation of the multidimensional topic of food losses and food waste in terms of the sustainability of value chains. In addition to the theoretical aspects related to the basic definitions, approaches to assessment, identifying the causes and methods of reducing food losses and waste, the authors consider the current situation in the field of losses and waste in the Russian market as a whole, with a special emphasis on the retail stage and food redistribution issues.
