The article deals with archival materials-local reporting documents of the regional profile Ministry. They show problems of development of the traditional economy of Yakutia in the first post-Soviet period of the 1990s. The article presents the financial situation and economic condition of farms in the areas of traditional animal husbandry-domestic reindeer herding, cattle breeding, horse breeding-as well as hunting and fishing in 1997-1998. In the context of the crisis of farms, the relevant Ministry developed solutions that were an attempt to adapt the agro-industrial complex to the existing financial and economic realities. Adaptation processes in management approaches were implemented in the form of program intentions and proposals to overcome the crisis of traditional industries and were a practice that was actively used during the years of agrarian reform. In the post-Soviet agricultural economy, representatives of the traditional economy became primarily agricultural producers in the modern agricultural system. Also the peculiarities of economic activity of the indigenous population in the traditional sectors of the agricultural sector of the economy, related to the natural and climatic conditions of the North were recognized. At the same time, adaptive experience in making managerial decisions was realized through the dualism of the requirements of the state's agricultural economy and natural factors in the Northern economy, which the primary requirements of the emerging market economic system prevailed over the actual natural conditions of traditional economic activity in the North.
