The article considers the issue of expanding the existing gas filling infrastructure for refueling motor vehicles with natural gas-methane, by implementation new types of filling facilities. The purpose of the research was to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the existing gas filling infrastructure and make recommendations for accelerating its expansion. As a result of the work the authors having studied the existing experience, including foreign colleagues, came to the conclusion that for the Russian Federation and the EEU countries, it is necessary to implement more mobile and compact and less expensive technologies. One of these innovations may be the use of small «home» natural gas compressor units. The article analyzes the economic, social and legislative barriers to the introduction of new technology, as well as illustrates the successful foreign experience and presents comparative data on available technological solutions on the market. An important part of the research is the study of the unique consumer properties of methane, which emphasize its environmental and economic attractiveness. In conclusion, the authors give the primary recommendations for the implementation of the described technology and calculate the expected effect of the implementation. According to the authors, the potential market capacity of domestic methane installations is estimated about 200 billion rubles. And for the rapid implementation of this technology, it is necessary to make changes to 3 legal acts of the Russian Federation.
