The work is devoted to the study of the specifics of the application of the rules for organizing the activities of public environmental inspectors, which have been operational in Russia since July 1, 2024. The importance of the changes is related to the increased role of public environmental inspectors in the implementation of regional state environmental control (supervision). The author, applying universal (general scientific and scientific-logical) methods, formal legal methods of scientific knowledge, considering and analyzing the social relations developing in the field of application of environmental and land law norms, comes to the conclusion that the participation of public environmental inspectors in the field of conservation and development of lands of various categories can become nominal, unable to influence the achievement of a balance of private and public interests. Taking into account the increasing role of the participation of public inspectors in environmental control, the training and verification of their knowledge and skills should be appropriate to their role and the assistance function performed. The author suggests changing the mechanism for verifying the knowledge and skills of public inspectors.
