The article examines the problem of inefficiency of existing agricultural technologies and water management systems in rice production in Republic of Ghana. Based on the analysis of literature data and field research materials, the main disadvantages of traditional irrigation methods, including flooding of rice checks, furrow and sprinkler irrigation, are identified. It is shown that the dominance of extensive approaches, critically low water use efficiency, infrastructural constraints, and climatic challenges hinder the achievement of food security. The prospects for introducing water-saving technologies, such as Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) and aerobic rice cultivation, adapted to the conditions of Ghana, are considered. Special attention is paid to the socio-economic barriers to innovation adoption and the need for scientific substantiation of regional recommendations.
