This work is the first part of a study consisting of two articles devoted to the global food problem. The article assesses the main factors of the problem, including: the availability and condition of natural resources used in agricultural production; the consequences of the use of intensive technologies in agriculture; uneven distribution of food supply and demand between regions and countries of the world (territorial aspect of the problem). Based on the calculations carried out, the perspectives for food security of various groups of countries are estimated in detail, depending on three factors - the availability of land resources, population growth rates and the state of the economy. The main objective of this study is to identify the most critical manifestations of the problem, causing the need for urgent measures to eliminate their causes. The analysis carried out in this paper precedes the study of possible solutions to the problem.
