The problem of employment and unemployment is one of the main socio-economic problems of the current stage of social development. Its growth leads to a deterioration in the financial situation of unemployed families, contributes to an increase in morbidity and crime, and exacerbates social tension in society. In our study, we analyzed the unemployment rate, which is one of the key indicators for determining the overall state of the economy and evaluating its effectiveness. The article presents the results of a cluster analysis of indices that characterize the unemployment rate in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. This clustering of the regions of the Russian Federation allowed us to divide them into three groups. The first cluster includes regions with high unemployment rates. The second cluster has medium-level unemployment, and the third cluster includes regions with low unemployment rates. The main differences between the clusters are in terms of unemployment rates, household income, and gross regional.
